Detalii:
“The Ohio State University Center for Bioethics was founded in 2013. In addition to providing education for health professionals, clinical ethics consultation, and advising, the Center faculty have been committed to taking the diversity of ethical views in our society seriously. There are areas of agreement in bioethics, especially in clinical and research ethics. Controversies, however, remain in our diverse and pluralist culture. Further, there is a perception that our society is becoming increasingly polarized in morality, ethics, and politics. In the context of seemingly intractable disagreement, how is one to teach or “do” ethics?
In this year’s annual, one-day conference we will be exploring this theme, among others. Our Center for Bioethics faculty and members will be joined by two national leaders in bioethics. Christine Grady, Chief of the Department of Bioethics at the NIH Clinical Center, will be presenting the Hagop S. Mekhjian, MD, Institutional Grand Rounds in Medical Ethics and Professionalism at 7:00am ET. She will be presenting on issues related to moral distress, moral strength, and diversity. At 12:00pm ET, Larry Churchill, Emeritus Professor of Medical Ethics at Vanderbilt University and author of the recently published book, Ethics for Everyone (Oxford), will address the theme above by considering ethics education as skill acquisition that allows for diverse views on controversial issues.
